Abstract: | The summary is in English: The Contemporary History of Algeria module is intended for the first year of the Master's degree in Contemporary History of the Maghreb, covering the first and second semesters. The first semester deals with the conditions prevailing before the French occupation of Algeria from 1827 to 1830, political, economic and social ... which were generally characterised by deteriorating conditions that helped the occupation of Algeria. The Propeller Event of 1827 was a direct pretext for this, followed by the naval blockade of 1827-1830, the French campaign against Algeria in June 1830, the battles of Sattawali and the Emperor's Fortress, and the signing of the surrender document on 05 July 1830. With the beginning of the French occupation, the first national responses were in the form of political and military resistance, including the resistance of Emir Abdelkader (1832-1847) in western Algeria and Ahmed Bey (1830-1848) in eastern Algeria, In addition to the unorganised popular resistance (Zaatcheh, Oulad Sidi Cheikh, Moqrani...) that took place all over Algeria between 1847 and 1916. We also examined French colonial policy in Algeria between 1830 and 1914 (administration, settlement, taxation, legislation, judiciary, education...), especially during the period of the Third Republic 1870-1900. The second semester dealt with the general situation in Algeria between 1900 and 1914, which was characterised by the control of the settlers over public affairs and the repressive laws against Algerians, including the conscription law of February 1912, which led to emigration, especially to the country of the Damascus. The beginning of the twentieth century was also marked by the emergence of political struggle and the participation of Algerians in the First World War 1914-1918 and their position on compulsory conscription and the outbreak of popular uprisings as a reaction, to the precursors of the Algerian national movement, including the bloc of conservatives and integrators and the manifestations of struggle represented in associations and clubs and the emergence of the movement of Prince Khalid. |
